Heron: (Corr Ghlas): The Heron is a native to Ireland and can be found in wetlands around the country. One of Ireland's most distinctive birds, its unique features include a long neck and legs plus its grey plumage and head crest and white neck and belly make it stand apart.
Herons are often seen standing very still on their long thin legs in shallow rivers and lakes patiently waiting to capture their next meal. Herons spend most of their time in solitude feeding mainly on fish.
